Final Fantasy XIII

I really hated this game on my first playthrough, linear, characters were boring to me and I have trouble understanding what was going on (l'cie, fal'cie, cie'th, pulse, sanctum...).

But then after playing FFXIII-2 I tried a second playtrough to this game and I managed to quite enjoy it, though it still felt a little too long as I was getting tired when I reached the 60 hours.
The first trick to enjoy this game is to lower the expectations.
The second trick is to read the novel that was published in japan before the game launch, it explains many things about the world and the characters that helped me a lot to follow the story and made the characters likable.

As I said one of the game's faults is being pretty linear, though there's a big quest zone but when I reached it I just wanted to keep going through the story so I didn't spend much time there until the end.

Combat gets fun, still the usual active time battle with with a new style directly controlling only one of the party members and on-battle class switch. This is what I don't like, I wouldn't say that the class-switch system gives more strategy to the combat, I think it's the other way around because the way it's done it's always the same strategy and only requires to adapt to the situation.
Customization is fun but I found no real choices either as I could get everything without much trouble.

The music is excellent but I think it doesn't fit much into the game, I mean, here is the desolated place plenty of monsters, let's put in some christmas music.

So there are many things that could be improved but aren't game-breaking, I had fun playing it, story and characters are nice (nicer after reading the novel), looks great and presentation is excellent.

Did i like it? Yes.
I think you will like it if you:
- Like jrpgs
- Don't mind linear development
- Forget about its name

I rate my experience with a 8 out of 10
