After hating my FFXIII first playthrough I had many doubts about this game and even more after this game on-rails presentation with Lightning on it.
But after the first hour I started to like a lot this game. There's more and better exploration to do and the linearity is gone, this time I was given the possiblity to explore more at my free will which I apreciated a lot.
The time-travel setup is something I love, exploring areas on diferent times, the action-reaction consequences, I'm easily bought with this.
The combat system have been revised, now I could switch between the 2 human party members and the third party is one of the monsters that can be captured and they have different roles and skills. This gives some of the strategy, customization and possiblities that this game needed to be way better. And that's why I'm sad about Lighting Returns combat, because one more twist on FFXIII-2 combat system and it would have been a very excellent one.
The game looks very good, excellent presentation and music, story is still messy, but passable. It is very fun to play.
